Watching and Waiting

When he returned to them again,
He found them sleeping where they lay.
They could not wait and watch with Him,
and knew not what to say.

When our Dear Lord returns for us
will we be found in such a state?
Will lack of prayer bring His disgust
or will we watch and wait?

Dear Jesus, help me stay awake
to pray with you both day and night.
Please let the path I daily take
lead to Your holy light.

More than a Poem

My feeble attempts to live this life
are full of sin and stress and strife.

It seems the harder I try to win,
the sooner I fail and begin again.

Yet greater still, as I hear Him call,
is His love for me that conquers all.

So though I fail and at times rebel,
He loves more than a poem can tell.

Wants

When no one wants me,
I pray I'll still want You.
May I ignore the evil past,
and not desire the new.

For I only want Your will
in the things I say and do,
but most of all Dear Savior,
how I want to be near You.

Thy Lovingkindness

Not always is the path easy;
There are thickets hung with gloom,
There are rough and stony places
  Where never the roses bloom.
But oft, when the way is hardest,
I'm conscious of One at my side
Whose hands and feet are wounded,
And so I feel safe with my Guide.

Better than friends and kindred,
  Better than love and rest,
Dearer than hope and triumph,
Is the Name I wear on my breast.
I feel my way through the shadows
  With a confident heart and brave;
I shall live in the light beyond them;
I shall conquer death and the grave.

Often when tried and tempted,
  Often, ashamed of sin-
Though sin, as an armed invader,
  Has wrecked the peace within.
That wonderful Lovingkindness,
  Patient and full and free,
Then stoops for my consolation;
And brings a blessing to me.

Therefore my lips shall praise Thee,
  Therefore, let come what may,
To the height of a solemn gladness
  My song shall arise today.
Not on the drooping willow
Shall I hang my harp in the land..
The Lord himself has cheered me
By the touch of His pierced hand.

A Moment in the morning

Old poem I stumbled on today, updated into modern English by yours truly. Oh a moment, if no more. Wonderful work!

A moment in the morning,
before the cares of day begin
and our heart begins to open
for the world to enter in..
Then alone with Jesus,
in the silence of the morn,
in such heavenly communion,
let your day be fully born.
In quietness that blesses
with a prelude of repose
let your soul be softened,
as the dew revives the rose.

A moment in the morning
take your Bible in your hand,
and catch a glimpse of glory
as you read and understand..
Such lovely words are jewels
that glisten through the day,
with an iridescent glory
which brighten on the way.
When comes a new temptation,
and your feet are near a snare,
then take these precious verses
and make each one a prayer.

A moment in the morning
oh a moment, if no more—
is much better than an hour
when the trying day is o'er.
The gentle dew from heaven,
this manna for the day;
if you fail to gather early-
then alas! it melts away.
So in the early morning,
take the offered hand of love,
to walk in heaven's pathway
and the peacefulness thereof.

Without You

Without You, I am nothing-
just earthly, mortal dust.
Yet still I cling to treasures
of ruin, rot and rust.

My heart is full of darkness-
I'm deaf and dumb and blind.
How I need your healing touch
in spirit, soul and mind.

Jesus save me from myself,
from evil, sin and shame.
Draw me closer to Your side,
to honor Your great Name.

Without You, I am nothing,
but with You, I can see..
O help me be the person
You meant for me to be.

After Hurricane Hermine

My power's restored!
God's praises will roll,
for He is my Shepherd,
restoring my soul!

Restored AC power's
a mighty fine thing,
but restored souls
are a reason to sing!

Psalmist's Poem

In Your presence is fullness of joy.
At Your right hand- pleasures forever.
May Your Spirit come now to deploy
Your love in our every endeavor.

For You're righteous in all Your ways,
and so kind with Your every deed.
Each passing day, You always amaze,
so what more on earth could we need?

Lord, You are our sun and our shield.
As You send down Your glory and grace,
may Your love, peace and joy be revealed,
as we humbly come seeking Your Face.

One Day

One day, my heart will be so free.
I'll fly away and then be at rest,
to live with my Father eternally-
in that land where all is blessed.

To see the parents I called grand,
to live in my happy, eternal home,
to walk and hold my Savior's hand,
without the desires to run or roam.

We'll walk along the heavenly coast
and if the pavement be sand or gold,
we'll talk about what matters most-
the glory of God, we'll all behold.

Yes, things that matter to me now
are not as important as they seem.
What matters is that I should bow
to seek the things as yet unseen.

One day I'll finally see His Face
and meet the One who set me free.
What exists in this earthly place
can't be compared to what will be.

Wholly

Oh to be holy!
I've tried to be,
but still how I have failed..
Now I want to be
wholly Yours,
that Your Glory be unveiled.

To live for You,
not for myself,
is my heart's aim and quest.
Oh that by
Your love and grace,
I'll find such a place of rest.

How can You forgive?

How can You forgive me,
when I can't forgive myself?
For a sinner such as I should
be put back on the shelf.

Or better yet be cast aside
for my rebellious way.
Yet still I plead for mercy,
please pardon me I pray.

Though I am not deserving,
God, cleanse me of my sin..
Renew me by Your Spirit
and heal me once again.

Matters of Grace

So gentle, so kind, so loving, so real
is the grace of our God I often conceal.
Just why I conceal it's a mystery to me,
when I should allow His grace to run free.

Perhaps it's selfishness or perhaps pride
or maybe some fear that I harbor inside?
Whatever the case, I want that to change,
sharing His grace, no matter how strange.

O' Lord, help me grow in matters of grace,
drawing closer to You in this sacred space.
Give me the courage to share love with all.
Jesus be Lord over things great and small.

Let all the world

Let all the world be nothing,
with its vanities and strife,
our hearts not be too trusting
in this mortal, earthly life.

Let the pleasures of mankind
be held in great disdain,
for we should not seek to find
some solace in its gain.

But let our eyes be focused
on Christ, the King of Kings.
Let all the world be nothing,
and let God be all things.

Based on a quote..

Let all the world be nothing, and let God be all things.

Could there be One

Could there be One so strong as He,
Who rules the waves and angry sea?
For when we face the raging storm,
its wind and waves of froth and foam,
to then sink down below the wave-
Christ extends His hand to save.

Could there be One so wise as Him,
the Light that darkness cannot dim?
For when we simply have no clue
which way to turn or what to do..
when we're lost and about to break,
Christ draws near for mercys sake.

Could there be One so very kind
to love us, heart and soul and mind?
For even when our sins are great,
He saves us from our low estate,
redeeming us with His very life-
So strong, wise and kind is Christ!

Forgive me Lord

Forgive me Lord for sins long past, and those for which I haven't asked. Forgive me when I neglect to pray; instead, desiring my own way...
